The bridge crossed the river
The developed and modernized new state1
Always left behind in the middle of the river

The unseen paths tend to be longer
Evenings which were spent
Looking at each other’s light

Those who burned themselves
While saying lightly, ‘tis but a candle
It melts itself giving light to others

Returning home every evening
The evening was returning thinking it was home

Is burning on a rotating schedule2

While at a loss on an old bridge
Under the bridge, blood flowed

1 A “developed and modernized new state” is the rhetorical goal which the Burmese military junta claims to be leading the country towards.
2 Referring to the regularly scheduled electricity cuts in Myanmar.
